COVID-19の世界的感染拡大の中、主催者であるIOCの正体が世界中に露呈され、取り返しの付かない状況を歴史上に記されることになった。新型コロナウイルスの蔓延拡大は大災害や戦争のレベルに相当するはずなのに、市民の生命の犠牲をいとわずに強行しようとする姿は余りにも見苦しい。地球上の各国リーダーや主要メディアも猛烈な批判を繰り返している。1984年のロス五輪以来IOCはスポーツマーケティングという商業主義的な成功により、クーベルタン男爵の五輪の理念からすっかり遠ざかってしまった。IOCと招致開催都市との不平等で一方的な契約主従関係も明らかになった。今後五輪招致に参加する都市はなくなっていくことだろう。新型コロナ感染が五輪の開催で広がり、アスリートが感染や生命の犠牲があっても自己責任の誓約書を書かせるシステムは許すべきではない。五輪を開催した都市が感染拡大を引き起こしてもIOCは免責される不条理は未来永劫消え去ることはない。損害賠償は開催国に押しつけられる可能性は排除できないが、感染が戦争レベルということになれば、不可抗力ということになり、それでも損害賠償金を開催国に負わせてしまえば、世界的な世論はIOCの解体論まで行き着くことになる。IOCの会長はこれまで、人徳が有り常識のある良識的な判断をする者と思っていた人たちにとっては、今回のコロナ禍でのIOCの立ち回りはマフィアもどきなスクリーンを見ている気がするに違いない。残念ながら日本にはトップリーダー達の器量がついて行かず、世論から乖離している議会制民主主義が現実に有り、IOCに対しては全くの無力である。五輪の大スポンサー企業やNBCにしても今こそ、五輪からの勇気ある撤退という米国の良心を世界に披露するべきだ。オリンピック村には酒類の持ち込みは許され、大量のコンドームが配布される予定だという。五輪はアスリートの為だけにあるのではない。経済復興という利権を拡大させるためにあるのではない。五輪のメダルはアスリート達や五輪関係者の生活を保障するものでもない。初心に返ったアマチュアリズムの精神に則った近代五輪の在り方を世界は追究すべきだ。アーノルド・トインビー氏が唱えた世界政府の樹立も、戦中で組織された国際連合の世界秩序の固定化でしばらく我慢しなければならない。世界はまたバラバラになった。近代五輪の誕生から廃止の歴史を私たちは証言者として心に記していくことだろう。
