事件を起こすにのは必ず動機があるわけだが、加害者の母親が宗教にのめり込み、多額の献金で家が破産したあとでも、献金を続けていたようだ。加害者はその恨みから、特定の宗教団体の幹部を狙うも、広告塔の役を買って出ていた安倍元総理に攻撃の矛先を向け、行為に至ったという事実は、いずれ裁判で明らかになるはずだ。意味不明な言動が目立つ加害者は下手をすれば刑事責任能力の是非（複雑性PTSD）によっては減刑あるいは無罪になる可能性はゼロではない。選挙前に明らかにすれば参院選に響くと自民党側はおもっているのかもしれないし、事件を追い風にして選挙を有利にすることを考える人もいるだろう。逆に明らかになれば安倍元首相への嫌悪感が巷に徘徊しないとも限らないし与党にとっては選挙は不利となる心理も働くのは自然かもしれない。
加害者には民主主義世界への冒涜とか言論の自由を守ろうとかマスメディアは表向き口をそろえて言ってはいるけれども、本音では加害者の特別な家庭環境や破産での同情も生まれるので、安倍元首相への同情と相殺するという見方もないわけではない。安倍氏の生前の光と影が評価を二分しているからだ。特定の宗教団体名は週刊誌でも掴んでいると思う。いずれにしろ公平に見て、特定宗教団体名（推測：旧・世界基督教統一神霊協会）は白日の下には公表するべきだと思う。
2022年7月11日、旧統一教会側からの会見があったが、1）献金での自己責任の表明と2）捜査途中での献金額の詳細は公表されなかった。3）政治家と教会での関係性については一般論しか語らなかった。4）事件との関与については言及していない。5）加害者の家庭経済環境の把握や母親の破産後の入信活動にも言及していない。と言う点で不快感が広がった。
山上容疑者が某大学に在籍した形跡はないと広報側はアナウンスはしているが、大学入試に合格したけれども入学金や学費を未納せざるを得なかった場合は当然在籍は無い可能性はあるので、ガセネタと決めつけるのは早計だ。大学に進学したかったに違いないと思うが、母親の入信と破産でその夢ははかなく消えた可能性は高く、政治家と旧統一教会とのパイプが余りにも強く、遺恨のため世直しのため暗殺という行為に走らざるを得なかったのだろうと推察する。裁判では国選弁護人が付くが、個人的にもし私がその立場だったら、政治的・心情的な面も含めて出来るだけ減刑（無罪は難しい）の方向で弁護に回るかも知れない。山上容疑者の母親は今でも教団活動をしているというので、過去の出来事はもみ消される可能性は大きい。教団側にとっては不都合な真実となるからだろう。山上容疑者を実の子と思うのなら、母として公に説明するべきだと考える。
個人的意見だが、安倍元首相の「国葬」は常識的には考えられない。祖父の代から三代にわたって旧統一教会に敬意を払ってきた事実は、政教分離のルールに抵触するし、森友学園国有地払い下げ問題や加計学園、桜を見る会の疑義など数え切れないトラブルの存在は、永年首相の職務を果たし、俯瞰外交の功績があったとしても「国葬」に値する為政者とは言えないと思う。自民党の「内閣・自民党合同葬」が適切な計らいかと思う。岸田首相が政治的思惑で即断で国葬を促してはいるが、国民と国会でそれにふさわしいかどうか議論されるべきだ。0708事件で旧統一教会と自民党・他野党との深い癒着が問題になっているなか、国葬を「内閣・自民党合同葬」に変更する可能性は充分にある。
